Three Questions to Ask Before Hiring a Campervan

When you hire a campervan, you have all the facilities that a home will offer from beds and kitchen to a sitting area with a television set and a DVD player. At the same time, you are travelling and exploring natural wonders, visiting historic sites and enjoying various kinds of fun attractions. Before you get to experience an amazing trip, you have to take care of some practical aspects. Ask the rental company the following things to ensure that you will get the best van and have smooth travel.

What kind of campervan is right for me?

The rental company should be able to recommend a motor home with sleeping space for all travellers. There are models designed to accommodate a family with two small kids and ones for as many as six, eight and even ten adults. You just need to know how many people will come along.

Define your needs of campervan facilities. Typically, there is a sink, a stove and a fridge in the kitchen. Ask what other appliances and utensils can be provided to you. You may want to make a checklist of items which are important for you. Inquire specifically about the toilet and showering facilities. Some motor homes come with portable toilets and outside showers.

What is included in the price?

This is the question that every campervan hirer inevitably asks. Usually, there is a daily fee which you have to pay. It includes the cost of using the recreational vehicle, plus taxes and insurance. Many companies provide the main kitchen appliances, cooking utensils plus cutlery and crockery and linen and bedding along with the motor home so the rental of these items is included in the price. A full gas bottle should also be part of the package when the main appliances run on natural gas. Other items such as transfer from the airport to the vehicle collection point may be included in the price as well.

Fuel is not included in the daily fees even though you will receive the vehicle with a full tank. You will have to cover the cost of parking and camping yourself. Some companies set a maximum number of kilometres per day. You will have to pay additionally for the extra distance covered.

Do I need to meet special requirements to drive a campervan?

You have to have a standard driver’s license that is accepted in the respective country in order to be able to hire a motor home. Heavy duty license is not a requirement. Most companies will rent a vehicle to individuals who are over 25 years of age only, but there are ones who work extensively with younger travellers as well.

Enjoy your campervan trip.
